Hi! I'm GM Evgeniy Solozhenkin from Saint Petersburg, Russia. Professional player in the past. Chief Trainer in the Grandmaster Chess School of Nord-West region of Russia at the current moment.

Twice champion of Leningrad-Saint Petersburg, winner of club championships of Russia, France, Finland . Winner of tens international tournaments in Europe and Russia, among them Cappelle-la-Grande, Reggio Emilia. World Senior champion (2017) in the team of Saint Petersburg.

World champion Alexander Khalifman recruited me in 1990th as a second. Having stopped active chess carrier in the beginning of 2000th, I started my carrier of professional chess teacher and coach in a chess club of my home city St.Petersburg where I worked with children of all levels from beginners to advanced players. Last years I do train mainly advanced teenagers including members of Russian Youth team. In 2014 and 2015 I was nominated by Russian Chess Federation among three best youth coaches in Russia (3rd and 2nd awards). FIDE Senior Trainer since 2019.

In 2000 I wrote CD for Chessbase "Opposite Colour Bishop Endgames"devoted to rare ratio of chess material. My book "The Main Spanish Road" on Ruy Lopez with Zaitsev System as a corner variation was published in 2016. Two other my books were published in 2018 (“Play Queen's Indian Defense”) and 2020 (“Challenge 2020”).

As if I was impressed by Nimzowitsch masterpiece "My System", games of Petrosian and Karpov in my youth, the positional way of playing was established on subconscious level in my own creation. Opening repertoire was wide enough for both sides during my professional chess carrier and it was even increased when I became trainer.

Modern chess with its trend of reducing time control dictates the development of certain qualities: quick and correct evaluation of the position, quick and precise calculation of short tactics, deep knoledge of your opening repertoire with clear understanding of up-coming plans for both sides in the middlegame. All is needed. From the other hand every student is unique, that's why flexibility and diversity based on particularity of the chessplayer is highly recommended in chess training. Common analyzing of played games is the way better to understand weaknesses and strong sides. We can also play on-line games of rapid or blitz time control and analyze them together right after.
Chess do not stand unchangeable. Chess as a game still is developing. Some aspects of modern (sometime called “computer”) chess are reflected in my last book “Challenge 2020”.
