How strong you need to be to make money with chess?

Anyone knows how to make money with chess and how strong you need to be?
Be a teacher theirs no real requirement. Even I can teach chess at a community college and make around 18 dollars an hour. See if your local one does community education classes and you dont even need a degree to teach them unlike the academic side of things. I am not as good as you but still can teach. Ill claim I am the second best player in my town of about 35000. Second only to a CM. The others that I teach are right around the 1200ish so it works out pretty decent. Also its legal to write about chess and get it published even for free on websites such as amazon. I plan on writing a small little book detailing some of my favorite master games. I don't really do it for the money but I do it cause I enjoy it. Regardless if people buy my book or even join my classes I don't care. I do it cause I enjoy it and I will learn something by doing it even if you don't. You being my student or purchaser of my book. Also this summer I am working on a chess app that I think will teach people/patzers like me tactics in a different way than is being taught now. Sometimes people are questioning why a 1500 is giving lectures and writing a book on chess. Like I said I do it for the enjoyment and its not against the law. ;D
One last thing. I said it was not against the law and Im being serious now. Been down that road before with drinking. ;( :(
#2 You don't even need to be CM to teach? Is that just because there aren't many strong players in your town?
Thanks, interesting ideas. How strong you need to be to make a living just competing?
You can be rated 900 and teach chess. I am pretty sure a few 300s would look at a 900 and say he/she is much better than I am?

I live in rural Oregon. There is not many chess players even in my state of 3 million. I mean the highest rated player in my state is 2350 and they are several hundred miles away from where I live.

Just competing probably GM or IM strength is a must from what I hear not many FM's make decent money from chess or even IM's.
Pretty difficult unless you have some claim to fame I suppose.
In my city, there are 5 NMs and countless CMs. I know I couldn't make any money teaching like this
Maybe not where you live. Unless its teaching kids but there is not even a GM in my state. So I am pretty good considering XD. Even though I am terrible.
One can teach a student who is 500 points below a teacher. A GM does not mean he can teach better than this teacher even though he is 1000 points higher than this teacher because the GM might not know how to impart his knowledges to the students. Another reason is a good command of the language used. As the student improve he has to find another teacher of higher rating. bye friends
In Canada you can join different sections like U2000 or U1600 or Open. As long as you get top of the player pool you can get a price.
