I cannot add people to studies because when I search username nothing pops up in the list, therefore I have nowhere to choose a person from.
I have had the same problem for the longest time, for whatever reason I can't add people in my studies using my PC.
The workaround I've found is adding people using my phone's lichess app which doesn't seem to have that issue, it's a few extra steps but it gets the job done

EDIT: Study invites was fixed by github.com/lichess-org/lila/commit/8cb42894112ad094ca834d14929b9ce662613bc5 , so should work after next restart.
no, it still doesn't. I cannot add people to the study only from my wifi for some reason. If I use other network or mobile internet, everything works perfectly. So situation is similar to comment of Telloss but he cannot add people using only his PC(from other devices everything is fine), I can't add people using my wifi and I don't know why)
